Marilyn Manwaring learned her love of artwork while staying home from teaching elementary school to care for two young daughters.  During their naps, she would sketch and experiment with pencil, oil, pastels and watercolor.  When she returned to her educational career, she never forgot the thrill of putting on paper the brilliant colors and lighting she learned to “see.”

As Marilyn’s teaching career draws to a close, she is again avidly pursuing a calling to art.  Using what she has learned from many wonderful teachers, Marilyn’s first love is portraying children at play.  “After so many years of surrounding myself with children, I am still fascinated by their whimsical, unique ways of looking at the world.” With a camera always ready, Marilyn captures their expressions and wonder on film and uses her imagination to enhance and tell their stories in watercolor or oils. However, she also loves the exacting work involved with painting flowers and wildlife.  She recently discovered the art form of scratchboard and has enjoyed the relaxing etching and attention to tiny details that this involves.
